Zach Montague is a reporter for The New York Times covering the federal court system and lawsuits against the federal government. Since joining the paper’s Washington bureau in 2019, he has covered the Education Department and the Justice Department’s prosecution of individuals and extremist groups in connection with the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6.
His writing focuses on federalism, the limits of executive power, and administrative law.
Zach graduated from the Cornell College of Arts & Sciences in 2013 with a degree in China & Asia Pacific Studies and Government, and participated in CIW in Fall 2011.
