Craig Newmark Philanthropies supports BTPI Cyber Test Range

November 2, 2025

Craig Newmark Philanthropies has awarded the Brooks Tech Policy Institute (BTPI) at the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy $140,000 to support its Cyber Test Range, which is designed to detect hidden cyber vulnerabilities in critical hardware.

“We are grateful to Craig Newmark for this crucial support. Craig’s passion for cyber civil defense continues to inspire us in our work and helps to define the role we play in cyber tool development and pioneering cyber security research,” said BTPI Executive Director James Patton Rogers.

The Cyber Test Range is part of the work of BTPI’s U.S. Semiconductor Research Hub, which is centered on improving the resilience of the global interconnected semiconductor supply chain network and infrastructure to mitigate future threats, especially cyber security threats.

BTPI is led by Sarah Kreps, the founding director of the institute, Professor of Government and Public Policy at the Brooks School, and the John L. Wetherill Professor in the Department of Government in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Cyber Test Range is composed of a team of active service military and veteran researchers, led by Patton Rogers and BTPI Senior Fellow Gregory Falco, Assistant Professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Systems Engineering.

“It is thanks to this generous gift that our Cyber Test Range team of experienced researchers can continue their vital work,” said Patton Rogers.
